Will the needles hurt?
Insertion of the needles is not usually painful. Because the needles are so fine there is, in fact, very little sensation. Sometimes a mild tingling and slight distended feeling can be experienced.

What are the needles made of?
Modern day acupuncture needles are made of high grade surgical stainless steel. In my practice I use only single use, pre-sterilized, disposable needles.

Does acupuncture work?
As acupuncture has a history of over 2000 years, it can be said to have stood the test of time. Modern research is beginning to demonstrate its efficacy and since its introduction to the West many studies have shown clear evidence of positive therapeutic benefit.

How long is the treatment?
The needles will be left in for 20 minutes. The overall consultation time is 1½ hours for new patients and 1 hour for subsequent visits.

How many needles will be used?
This will depend upon the reason for the treatment and will vary from patient to patient. Usually only 2 - 4 needles will be used for general treatment. If cosmetic acupuncture is being given then it is normal for more needles to be applied.

How many treatments will I need?
This will often depend upon the duration of the condition and the individual
patient. Most people experience beneficial changes even after the first treatment but in order to obtain lasting results several treatments may be necessary.

Can I have acupuncture whilst I am taking prescription medicines?
Yes. Acupuncture can be very happily combined with prescription medicines.
You will not be asked to discontinue prescription medicines and should not do so without consulting your doctor first.
